Mail Help File -------------- NEWS - This command is used to look at the 7 newsgroups: Board, Podium, Micro, Sales, Reviews, Telecommunications, and Infocom. Each article will be shown as 'Letter # 1 of 6 from ...' The 1 means it is the oldest letter of a total of 6. Each newsgroup can have up to 15 letters. For each letter you are given the choice of: - READ the letter - SKIP the letter and go on to the next one. - DELETE the letter (only if you sent it). Once you have deleted the letter, the mail system will initialize itself. Don't worry! - GOTO a letter within the maximum #. - QUIT current newsgroup. - EXIT and return to mail prompt. DATE - This command is similar to NEWS. Instead of looking at all postings, however, it checks just those ones that have been posted since the last day you were online. POST - This command is used to place a letter in one of the newsgroups. If there are already 15 letters in that group your letter will become #15 and the oldest letter will be removed. Once you have typed in the Subject of your letter, you will see a '0:'. This is used for editing purposes. You may use up to 10 lines (0-9). Once you are finished, type Ctrl-C and you will be given the choice of: - SEND the letter to the newsgroup. - ABORT the letter. - EDIT your lines. If you choose this option you will be asked which line you wish to edit. You will then be given the prompt '#:' (# being the line you want to edit), and then you may retype the line. - REDRAW your letter. A good practice, since we all make mistakes! - COPY will not work in Post (see SEND). FAST - This command is used to have a quick look at the newsgroup mail. For each newsgroup you are given the choice of looking at the Subjects (By pressing Return) or skipping it (By pressing Ctrl-C). SEND - This command may be used to send another user personal mail. This mail may not be read by anyone else (this, by the way, is protected by a special method). When asked which user to send mail to, use the FULL NAME of the user. Or, you can type the user's number, which eliminates tiresome disk searching. The rest is the same as POSTing news. - COPY is a subfeature of SEND. It allows you to make multiple copies of each letter and send them to different users. READ - This command is used to read your mail (if you have any). Once you have read the letter you are asked whether you want it saved. You may want to do this if, perhaps, the letter is garbled by a bad phone line, the letter contains important info and you want to download it, etc. You may save up to 5 letters in your mailbox at a time. If your mailbox is full no-one can send you mail.
